Programme Overview
The Department of Civil Engineering, established in 1960, is one of the foundational departments of Govt. Polytechnic College, Kottayam. Civil Engineering, being one of the oldest and most fundamental branches of engineering, plays a vital role in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the built environment and infrastructure essential for societal development. Over the years, the department has contributed significantly to the engineering profession by nurturing and producing competent and skilled Civil Engineering professionals who have made their mark across various sectors of the industry and public service. The department provides students with a strong foundation in theoretical knowledge and practical skills, supported by state-of-the-art laboratories, workshops, and industry-oriented projects. The curriculum places emphasis on experiential and practical learning, industry readiness, professional ethics, and sustainable engineering practices, enabling students to confidently meet the evolving demands of the Civil Engineering profession.
Students are selected through the Single Window Admission system of the Government of Kerala. Practical classes are conducted in state-of-the-art laboratories under the direct guidance of experienced engineering faculty.
